Generally, the Ministère de l’Éducation (MEQ) will send the loan certificate within a maximum of three weeks from the date of receipt of the application for loans and bursaries made to the MEQ when a beneficiary has already started school.
Effective June 1, 1997, the MEQ can issue an interim loan to a student who has filed an application for loans and bursaries and who is a former beneficiary if the loan certificate cannot be issued within the three weeks. The amount of this interim loan is $500 for a single adult or a couple without children and $775 for a family with children.
So that they can receive an interim loan, the Band Council and/or Tribal Council refers beneficiaries who are leaving assistance because they are undertaking vocational secondary or postsecondary education, and who will probably not have received their loan certificate in the month following the start of school.
