Since October 2019, the parental contribution is calculated in the following way:
The agent must calculate the parental contribution according to the two options below, and choose the calculation method that is more favourable for the client.
OPTION 1
The contribution is equal to the result obtained from the following equation:
A) Add the declared income of the father and mother
B)
Subtract $17,606 if the parents live together
Subtract $12,349 if the parents live apart
Subtract $12,349 if one of the parents is deceased, untraceable or unknown
C) 40% (income of the father and mother minus the amounts to be subtracted) and DIVIDE BY 12
OR
For parents who have declared income below the threshold for low income, calculate 20% (income of mother and father minus the amounts to be subtracted) and DIVIDE BY 12
This result is divided by the number of adult clients without any seriously limited capacity for employment when SEVERAL ADULTS are DEEMED TO RECEIVE a parental contribution from one or both parents.
Here are the LIMs based on the number of persons per household:
Number of persons/household[1] |
Total of household income - LIM |
1 person |
$19,465 |
2 persons |
$27,258 |
3 persons |
$33,715 |
4 persons |
$38,931 |
5 persons |
$43,526 |
6 persons |
$47,680 |
[1] The number of persons per household includes dependent children and any other persons residing under the same roof, whether or not they are financially independent.
OPTION 2
The contribution is equal to the result obtained from the following equation:
A) Add the declared income of the father and mother
B)
Subtract $32,233 if the parents live together
Subtract $26,310 if the parents live apart
Subtract $26,310 if one of the parents is deceased, untraceable or unknown
C) DIVIDE BY 12
The result is divided by the number of adult clients in question without a severely limited capacity for employment where MORE THAN ONE ADULT is DEEMED TO BE RECEIVING a parental contribution from the same parent or parents.
The calculation is done on a MONTHLY BASIS.
A CHANGE that has the effect of raising the contribution shall be considered in the next REASSESSMENT.
