BENEFITS are PAID:
- on a monthly basis,
- to the spouses jointly or at their request to one of them, or to an independent adult,
- in accordance with the terms and conditions prescribed by the Framework Policy.
Regular benefits and special continuing benefits are paid on the FIRST DAY OF THE MONTH unless there are exceptional circumstances.
Special benefits other than continuing benefits are paid in the normal course of applications.
A BENEFIT cannot be WITHHELD unduly in order to make checks.
Since April 1996, changes have been made to avoid sending a client a cheque for less than $1.00 in the case of regular benefits.
Details:
- If repayment of a debt from assistance is made, a payment of less than $1.00 may be sent. For example, if a deduction of $56.00 is made from $56.50 in regular benefits, the result will be a payment of $0.50. In these particular cases, we cannot prevent the payment of less than $1.00.
- Since April 1999, we have also made changes to the program for specific special benefits. If a payment of less than $1.00 is required, for example, in the case of transportation for medical treatment (9c), the counsellor must wait until the amount reaches a minimum of $1.00 before sending the payment to the client.
