When the NCBS adjustment has been paid to a family as conditional assistance because the family is waiting for a decision from Canada Customs and Revenue Agency regarding its application for the CCTB or regarding an event that requires a CCTB readjustment (separation, death, etc.), it becomes reimbursable up to the amount of the NCBS received as soon as the right is realized.
In some cases, the NCBS adjustment may have been paid as unconditional assistance and, following a correction to the file by Canada Customs and Revenue Agency, a retroactive NCBS payment is made, which then becomes reimbursable.
In a case where the retroactive amount paid by Canada Customs and Revenue Agency includes the month of the application, no claim for recovery is made for this month if the amount was received during a month other than the month of the application.
The claim for recovery is not “joint and several” since it involves conditional assistance. The debt is payable only by the adult who is the recipient of the right realized.
