SALESPEOPLE WORKING ON COMMISSION may or may not earn a basic salary.
SELF-EMPLOYED WORKERS who earn COMMISSIONS (e.g. a self-employed real estate agent) receive a commission on each sale they make. This income is included in their balance sheets for their business' fiscal period, together with their operating expenses.
WORKERS under CONTRACT to work or provide a service are self-employed if they:
-
are free to perform their duties as they see fit;
-
provide the necessary tools and equipment;
-
pay the costs of performing the work or providing the service;
-
determine the sale price of the product or service to be negotiated with the purchaser.
However, some contract workers can, on the basis the form of remuneration (hourly rate or piecework paid on a regular basis) and the relationship of subordination they have at work with an immediate supervisor, be determined to have the status of EMPLOYEES.
