04.02.07 – SLCE – Cause and effect relationship

Not only must the client have permanent or indefinite functional limitations, but it must also be FOR THIS REASON that the client has severe limitations in the capacity for employment, when they are considered in light of the client's socio-occupational profile in order to identify the cause and effect relationship.

Thus, functional limitations that appear relatively insignificant when considered individually can nonetheless result in a finding of severe limitations in the capacity for employment if they prevent the client from holding employment corresponding to his or her socio-occupational profile. Conversely, although a person may have relatively serious permanent disabilities, it may be decided that he or she does not have severe limitations in the capacity for employment if, as a result of the person's favourable socio-occupational profile, these disabilities do not prevent him or her from holding employment.
