04.02.05 – SLCE – Significant limitation

This expression relates to a defective or impaired physical or mental condition. In order to be SIGNIFICANT, the impairment or deficiency must present OBJECTIVE MEDICAL SIGNS resulting in functional limitations, that is, a partial or total decrease in the ability to carry out an activity in an acceptable manner or within limits considered normal for humans. These functional limitations must be directly or indirectly associated with work activities.

For example, an inability to walk, climb stairs, understand linguistic symbols as a result of a language disturbance and so on is liable to have an impact on employability.

Normally, these functional limitations are observed by a physician and noted in a medical report. They may also be documented in an appropriate report by other professionals, such as an occupational therapist, a neuropsychologist, or a guidance counsellor.
