03.01.01.03 – Adult admitted to shelter – Start and end

An independent adult who IS NOT A BENEFICIARY when he or she is admitted to shelter is deemed to have been admitted to shelter from the month of admission in proportion to the number of days remaining in the month.

An independent adult admitted to shelter who IS A BENEFICIARY at the time of admission will be granted a benefit of $342 in the month following admission.

An adult who LEAVES SHELTER will be granted the benefit to which he or she is entitled in the month of departure, less the amount of $342 already received. For example, if the date of departure is December 3 the assistance paid for December is the adult benefit less $342 (no prorating).

Sheltered adult member of a family

For the purposes of the income security program, an adult ceases to be part of a family as of the 3rd month following the month of admission to the shelter. Financial assistance is therefore reduced as of the 4th month.

This three-month period is granted to allow the family to adjust its budget or financial situation in the absence of one of its members. It applies even if the family was not receiving assistance at the time of shelter.

In the case of a single-parent family, the three-month period applies only when the child is not being cared for by a child and youth protection center or by the other parent.

Adult eligible for the 66/72 benefit

When the person eligible for the 66/72 benefit is sheltered, he or she receives the basic benefit for a sheltered person in the amount of $342. The person eligible for the 66/72 benefit is considered a sheltered person upon being admitted to shelter and is eligible for the basic benefit for sheltered persons in the following month.

Sheltered adult with a spouse

When a person eligible for the 66/72 benefit is admitted to shelter, the file of the spouse who is a client of the Income Security Program must be modified as of the month of the event in order to establish the assistance for the following month.

When a person eligible for the 66/72 benefit is no longer sheltered and goes back to living with his or her spouse who is a client of the Income Security Program, the spouse’s file must be adjusted as of the month of the event.

End of sheltering

When the person who is eligible for the 66/72 benefit is no longer sheltered, he or she or his or her administrator must inform the agent responsible for his or her file of the end of sheltering.

The basic benefit of a sheltered person is adjusted as of the month the sheltering ends. The person receives the benefit to which he or she is entitled minus the amount already received for that month. The benefit is adjusted if the change increases the amount.
