Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development Canada’s (AANDC) essential objective is to provide First Nations with a better quality of life. This project complies with the Government of Canada’s mission to improve First Nations quality of life and with the commitments made in the Speech from the Throne. Generally speaking, AANDC has primary, but not exclusive, responsibility for meeting the federal government’s constitutional, treaty, political and legal responsibilities to First Nations, Inuit and Northerners.
In Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development, the department’s primary role is to support First Nations and Inuit in developing healthy, sustainable communities and in achieving their economic and social aspirations.
